VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Barnes County lost more than 200 residents countywide including 10 residents in the city of Valley City according to the 2020 U.S. Census. The total number of Valley City residents now stands at 6,575 compared to the 2010 Census of 6,585. Following the 2000 census, Valley City recorded 6,826. In 1970, Valley City reached a peak population of 7,843 residents.
Valley City mayor Dave Carlsrud talked about the 2020 Census and thanked all of the volunteers who played a role in the U.S. Census.
Barnes County Auditor Beth Didier said with the loss of 213 residents (countywide) there will be no changes required of the five county commission districts. She said they will remain the same.
The Barnes County Redistricting Board unanimously voted to leave the five county commission districts as-is during a special meeting on January 28th.
