LAMOURE, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes wins on the road against their rivals LaMoure-Litchville-Marion by a final score of 53-41.

The Tornadoes got off to a strong start by forcing turnovers and making some easy baskets. Junior guard Laikyn Roney had a tough time making field goals, but went 8-9 from the free throw line to give her 11 points at the break. For the Loboes, sophomore guard Tessa Rasmusson shot nine three balls in the first half and connected on three of them to give herself 13 first half points. LaMoure had a tough time protecting the ball as they committed 13 first half turnovers.

Both teams started the second half sluggish offensively. This worked out for the Tornadoes as they played solid defense and made it difficult for the Loboes to score for the whole second half. Oakes was able to outscore LaMoure 10-7 in the third quarter and had a 13-point lead going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, the Tornadoes handled their business were able to put the game away.

Roney led the way once again for Oakes with 24 points. She struggled from the field but was 9-11 from the free throw line and 3-9 from beyond the arc. Rasmusson finished the night with 23 points going 4-12 from deep.

The Tornadoes finish district play with a more-than-impressive 5-1 record and at the very worst, they will be the two-seed in the District 5 Tournament. They also pick up their 10th win of the regular season. As for the Loboes, they finish 3-3 in district play and have locked up the three-seed in the District 5 Tournament. They are now 11-4 overall.

Oakes will have just one day off before playing against Medina-Pingree-Buchanan on Saturday, January 29th at 1:30 p.m. As for LaMoure, they have a date with the top team of District 6 in Linton/HMB tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
