CRETE, Neb. (jimmiepride.com)– Down by 17 points early in the third quarter, the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team rallied to force overtime, then went on for a 90-84 win over Doane University Friday evening.

The Jimmies won their second straight game and improve to 13-8 overall and 6-7 in the GPAC, while the Tigers fall to 9-12 overall and 3-10 in the conference.

UJ coasted to an easy 40-point win in Jamestown when the two teams met last month, but the home squad had thoughts of revenge. A 10-0 run late in the first quarter helped Doane to a 23-18 lead after one.

Jamestown went cold from the three-point line in the second quarter, missing all 12 of their attempts. However, they shot 8-of-12 in side the arc, and were able to get within 36-30 after a Megan Oswald (FR/Brownsdale, MN) jumper at the 2:57 mark. Doane responded with a 7-0 run and built an 11-point lead going into halftime.

The Tigers began the second half with the first six points and it appeared as if the Jimmies were down for the count. Three-pointers by Kia Tower (JR/Bigfork, MN) and Macy Savela (JR/Mountain Iron, MN) along with a Jailyn Martinson (FR/Devils Lake, ND) layup cut the lead to nine with 6:22 in the third.

Noelle Josephson (SR/Ramsey, MN) had the first five UJ points of the third quarter as the Jimmies got within two at 59-57 with 7:43 in regulation. After a Sydney Roth three-pointer put Doane ahead 68-62, Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) countered with a three of her own, then Josephson scored on a putback, and Madelyn Schmidt (FR/Tappen, ND) drained a three to give Jamestown a 70-68 lead.

Roth made one of two free throws to make the score 78-76 with 15 seconds left, then on Jamestown’s next possession, Josephson scored to tie the game.

In the extra period, the Jimmie defense held Doane to 0-for-9 shooting and outrebounded the Tigers 10-4. UJ went 8-for-11 from the foul line, with DeMars hitting four straight to build a six-point lead.

Josephson finished with 21 points, nine rebounds, and five steals. DeMars added 20 points, nine rebounds, three blocks, and three assists. Tower and Schmidt were also in double figures with 13 points each. Tower dished out six assists and Schmidt came away with four steals.

Mak Hatcliff led all scorers with 31 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Nall added 19 and three other Tigers finished with 10 each.

The Jimmies return to action Saturday against Hastings (Neb.) at 2 p.m.
