Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—The Oakes Tornadoes girls basketball team outscored Carrington 42-30 in the second half erasing a 23-18 halftime deficit. Laikyn Roney had to overcome first half foul trouble but finished the night with a game high 23 points (17 in the second half). Lily Thorpe added 12 points (first 9 points of the third quarter for Oakes). Brynn Dethlefsen also added 9 points for the Tornadoes. Carrington was paced by Emma Rindy with 11 points and Sydnie Grager scored 10 points. The two teams combined for 57 turnovers (Oakes with 32 and Carrington with 25). The Cardinals had chances at the free throw line all night and made just 11 of 22 which included several misses on the front ends of the bonus. Oakes finished 14 of 22 from the line. The Tornadoes improved to 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the district while Carrington dropped to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in district play. Oakes will host Lisbon on January 25th and Carrington will host LaMoure-Litchville-Marion on the 25th as well.
