VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUAthletics.com) – Valley City State University has hired Steven Brown as the new assistant coach for the cross country and track and field programs.
A former distance runner at the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.), Brown most recently worked as an assistant coach for the University of Mary in Bismarck. VCSU head coach Laquone Robinson says Brown will work primarily with the distance runners and also serve as recruiting coordinator for the program.
“We are so excited for the addition of Steven to our coaching team,” said Robinson. “He is a good fit for us because his ultimate goal is always doing what is best for the athletes we support. He is passionate about growing our program and developing the team to its highest potential. With Steven on board, I am excited and confident we can grow this program. We will continue to stretch our goals, and I look forward to what we will achieve together.”
Brown was an NCAA Division II All-American in the 10,000 meters during his running career at Sioux Falls. He also won the NSIC Conference Championship in cross country. Most recently, Brown was an assistant coach with the University of Mary cross country and track and field programs, where he worked as the distance recruiting coordinator. He previously worked as the brand representative and assistant manager for 605 Running Company in Sioux Falls.
Valley City State resumes the 2022 indoor season this Saturday, competing at the Mike Thorson Open hosted by the University of Mary in Bismarck. Field events begin at 11 a.m. and running events start at 12 p.m. The Vikings are scheduled to compete at six more meets during the indoor season.
