JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown welcomed Briar Cliff to Newman Arena for college basketball on Wednesday night and fell in both games of the doubleheader to the Chargers.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: BRIAR CLIFF 66, JAMESTOWN 65
The Jimmie women trailed by as many as 19 points on Wednesday night before storming back in the fourth quarter to take the lead for the first time. Jamestown had a last second shot opportunity that rimmed out, and on the rebound the Jimmies committed a personal foul that led to the game winning free throw for the Chargers. UJ was led in scoring by Hannah DeMars, Madelyn Schmidt, and Sarah Lenz, who all finished with 12 points. Jamestown falls for the fourth consecutive game, dropping to 11-8 overall and 4-7 in the GPAC.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: BRIAR CLIFF 81, JAMESTOWN 79
The Jimmie men held the lead for the majority of the night until Briar Cliff flipped the script in the final two minutes to get their sixth consecutive victory. Jamestown had a 37-32 lead going into halftime, paced by Mason Walters who put up 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the first 20 minutes. The Chargers hit consistently from long range on the evening, shooting 62% on threes and only committing five total turnovers. Junior Marc Kjos tied his career high with 26 points in the loss, and Walters finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds for his 11th double-double in 15 games. Will Cordes also had 18 for the Jimmies.
