MANDAN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown boys basketball team struggled to put together a second-half performance on Tuesday night at Mandan as the Blue Jays fell 70-59 to the Braves.
Jamestown jumped out early on the Braves as Mandan struggled to make field goals during the first four minutes of play. The Blue Jays leaned on a big first-half performance by Luke Van Berkom, who scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds during the first frame. Jamestown took a 32-31 lead into the break.
In the second half, senior Aaron Grubb for Mandan got hot from the outside and made Jamestown pay, knocking down four threes in the span of five minutes. Ryan Larson tried to lead the comeback charge, putting up 12 second-half points but it wasn’t enough. Mason Lunzman also had a nice second half, finishing with 11 total points.
Van Berkom recorded a double-double for Jamestown, scoring 10 points and collecting 10 rebounds. Larson ended the night as the leading scorer for the Blue Jays with 16. Jamestown, now 4-5 on the year and 3-5 in the WDA, welcomes Watford City to Jerry Meyer Arena for a Saturday afternoon matchup.
