COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Carrington Cardinals boys basketball team opened up District 5 play on Tuesday night with a loss against the Titans of Griggs/Midkota 50-37. Carrington is now 0-1 in D5 and 4-4 overall, GM improves to 1-1 in D5 and 2-6 overall.

The Titans hit eight 3-pointers in the first half and led 33-18 at the break after a tight three point lead at the end of the first quarter, 14-11. GM would lead by as many as 20 points in the second half, Carrington cut the gap to nine with about three minutes left in the game, but an intentional foul by Carrington and some big free throws by the Titans help retain the lead. Carrington had two players in double figures, Hudson Schmitz had 13 and Hudson Topp 12. GM was led by Jaxon Gronneberg with 14, including two 3-pointers, Carter Spitzer added 12, all three’s and Logan Topp had 10. Starting Guard for Carrington Lucas Hendrickson was out with an ankle injury.

Next up for Carrington will be Thursday in Carrington for a boys and girls double header against top-rated Central Cass. KDAK will cover the girls game at 6pm, the boys varsity will follow.
