Carter Bowman, age 16, of Adrian, ND, died Thursday, January 6, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 14th at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in LaMoure, ND. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the Church on Friday afternoon.
Carter Hale Bowman, the son of Brett and Ann (Svenningsen) Bowman, was born October 3, 2005 in Hettinger, ND. The family moved to LaMoure, ND where Carter grew up and attended school. He was presently a Sophomore at LaMoure High School where he played football and basketball.
Carter was a highly motivated young man, with unyielding determination. Whether it was on the football field, basketball court, or in the classroom, Carter always put in his best possible effort. Once he was so committed to increasing his vertical jump that he dedicated months to special workout programs. Nobody could stop him from transforming the living room for his own personal training plan. And although his vertical jump did increase, he said he was at a disadvantage because he was dealt ‘bad genetics’ in the height department.
Carter loved to be on the move. He was passionate about all sports, but football and basketball were his favorites. He was an all-season golfer. Carter would play golf with anyone, at any time, in any weather. He loved virtually anything involving the outdoors…fencing with his buddy…shooting hoops in the driveway…milking cows…floating the river. He was up for any challenge. Even as a partner in pinochle, hanging on to 40 jacks or 80 kings, because how was he supposed to know what his partner needed?!
He took pride in not only his athletic abilities and academic excellence, but also his…hair. He was lucky to have thick, beautiful hair and he worked hard on his “flow” regardless of how many times he was told it looked great.
Carter was known for his big appetite. It wasn’t uncommon for him to eat 3 cheeseburgers and a bowl of waffle fries at one sitting. When we talked about his plans for college, he said wherever he went they had to have “nice food”.
One heart-healing discovery to come out of this tragedy was to learn how Carter impacted his younger peers. We have been told that he was a role model for many and would spend time visiting and laughing with younger students. Even with his quiet and reserved personality, Carter made a lasting impression. He made an impact on many.
Carter loved his mom, dad, and brother dearly. He will forever be their Carty Man. Carter loved all of his family: grandpas, grandmas, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He loved his football and basketball teammates/coaches, both on and off the court. He loved his best friend Wyatt. He adored his favorite mutt, Snickers.
Carter is survived by his parents, Brett and Ann Bowman; his brother Charlie Bowman, all Adrian, ND; his grandparents, C. Berk Bowman, Rhame, ND, Randi (Tom) Williams, Bowman, ND and Howard and Mary Svenningsen, Valley City, ND; his aunts and uncles, Tara (Patrick) Seitz, Dani (Jason) Huttner, Lindsey (Jeff) Guidinger, Dawn (Joe) Aluise, Emy (Nick) Shockman, Quin Svenningsen, Glen Svenningsen and Jo Marie (Isaac) Allen; numerous cousins; his special companion and dog Snickers.
