JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 7th annual Jamestown Battle of the Badges blood drive came down to the wire, with Team Law beating Team Fire by one vote.

A friendly competition, the Jamestown Police and Fire Departments team up with Vitalant in search of blood donors to help address the nationwide shortage.

Donor Recruitment Representative Weldon Roberts says because of the large service area and the many different blood types, there’s a constant need for blood donations.

Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther says while serving the community, they see the firsthand need for blood donations.

Police Chief Scott Edinger says the drive is one of the many ways his department and the Fire Department look to give back to Jamestown.

Roberts says blood drives take place all over the state year-round, but says drives like the Battle of the Badges are made possible by the communities support.

195 participated in the three day drive, with 98 voting for Team Law and 97 for Team Fire. All donations will go on to help 68 area hospitals with their blood supplies.
