VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City will be getting an automatic garbage collection truck for residential use by the summer of 2023.

City Public Works Manager Gary Jacobson said the city approved of the funding to purchase the truck last month.

He said in 2023, residential users will be getting receptacle containers.

Jacobson gave this estimate as to how many receptacles will be ordered for the city.

The city appropriated $180 thousand for the truck in the 2022 budget and plans to appropriate another $200 thousand in fiscal year 2023. Another $187 thousand for receptacles will be appropriated in the upcoming city budget.

Valley City Administrator Gwen Crawford said the overall savings for the city will be beneficial. She said several North Dakota cities in the area already have an automatic garbage truck. Jamestown has had an automatic garbage truck for more than three years.
