Mavis Ben, 84, Alfred, ND passed away peacefully Sunday December 26, 2021 at Ave Maria, Jamestown, ND.
Mavis Juanita Suko was born November 28, 1937 at Jamestown, ND, the daughter of Gotthilf and Leona (Remboldt) Suko. She grew up and worked on the family farm North of Alfred. She attended the local rural school in Alexander Township where she received her elementary education. Although she was unable to attend High School, she completed her GED and received a diploma.
She and Richard Ben were married December 6, 1955 at the Grace Baptist Church in Gackle, ND. They made their home on the Ben family homestead 5 miles east of Gackle where she worked side by side with Richard farming and not only raising crops but cattle, pigs, chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys.
Mavis was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Mavis loved Jesus with all her heart and lived everyday serving others. She showed this loved by serving her church. She enjoyed Teaching Sunday School and serving in her Gleaner Group. She was always willing to help where ever she was needed. Her love for the outdoors was reflected in her treasured yard. She spent many hours cutting and trimming the lawn and tending her beautiful flowers and garden. Mavis adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was extremely proud of them and their accomplishments. She loved spending time with them especially during the Holidays and their Birthdays. Her hamburger noodle hotdish and homemade ice-cream were the two most requested dishes.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, Alfred, ND; 2 children Randy (Mona) Ben, Streeter, ND; Teresa (Kelly) Widmer, Jamestown, ND; 5 grandchildren, Melissa (Keith) Schlecht, Streeter, ND; Michelle (Tanner) Kreiman, Glendive, MT; Wesley Widmer (significant other Megan Summers), Hartford, CT, Wyatt Widmer, Jamestown, ND; William Widmer (fiancé Meghanne Quam); Fargo, ND; 3 great grandchildren, Henry and Charlie Kreiman, Aubrey Schlecht; 4 brothers and 2 sisters, Duane Suko, Alfred, ND; Neil (Connie) Suko, Alfred, ND; Harley Suko, Apache Junction, AZ; Myron “Joe” (Connie) Suko, Thief River Falls, MN; Myra Grenz, Bismarck, ND; Margie (Darrel) Dockter, Medina, ND.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Marlene Suko; 1 brother Wallace Suko, several brothers and sisters-in-law, and 2 great grandchildren before birth.
