OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes dominated Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter by a final score of 63-33 in their final game before the Christmas holiday.
The Tornadoes were able to force a multitude of Imperials turnovers and score layups off of them. They missed quite a few close ones, but they had the size advantage and had some second-chance points and offensive rebounds. As a result, their field goal percentage wasn’t pretty (38.8%), but they ended up still making 26 field goals which was more than enough to win Tuesday’s contest.
Oakes came out of the gate firing on all cylinders with 19 first quarter points. They followed that up with 20 in the second and third quarters and brought in their reserves to finish the game in the fourth quarter.
Junior Laikyn Roney scored 20 points, all of which coming in the first three quarters. She ended up shooting 7-15 from the floor and 6-10 from the free throw line. Sophomore Emma Muggli had an abundance of rebounds on both sides of the court with her 15 points. Eleven different Tornadoes scored in the victory.
The Tornadoes improve to 4-2 on the regular season and are now 2-0 against teams in District 6. This is their first stretch of the regular season where they have strung multiple wins in a row. As for Napoleon G-S, they fall to 2-5 on the regular season and are 2-2 against teams in District 5. Up next for the Oakes varsity basketball teams is a doubleheader at Hankinson on December 30th with the girls game starting at 2:30 p.m. and the boys game following at 4:00 p.m.
