JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The James River Valley Library System (JRVLS) is finding unique ways to give back to the community this holiday season.
For the last 7 years, the Alfred Dickey Library has been home to the mitten tree, where donors can leave new or gently used hats, mittens, scarves, and other warm clothing that will then be given to those locally who need them.
Director Joe Rector says patrons and visitors are welcome to join them in the 8th annual mitten tree again through January 7th.
Rector says they also understand the holidays can be financially difficult for some, adding that they’ve also returned their Food for Fines program.
Food for Fines will be held through the whole month of January. Rector says even if you don’t have outstanding fines, you’re more than welcome to still participate and join them in the program.
Rector says at the Stutsman County Library, they continue to build and expand their Library of Things by installing cabinets for more items. As of now, the Library of Things includes puzzles, games, and kitchen items such as a food processor, spiral cutter, vacuum sealer and more that can be loaned from the library for personal use. Rector adds that they’ll also be adding scrapbooking items, quilting & crocheting items, and craft kits in the future.
This includes their most recent purchase of a Criket machine, a die-cutting machine to cut intricate patterns in paper or vinyl.
At the Alfred Dickey Library, a generous donation is allowing them to upgrade and expand shelving in the meeting room. Installation began on that project last week in honor of Madeline Bellows.
