JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Area Ambulance has seen an increase in their calls for service once again in 2021.

Jamestown Area Ambulance saw 2,142 calls in 2020 and 1,980 calls in 2019. For the third year in a row, Operations Manager Andrew Berkey says they’ve seen more calls this year compared to previous years.

Berkey added that they’re always seeking more Emergency Medical Technicians, or EMTs, to join their roster and continue service in the region.

To help grow their crew, Berkey says they’ve been holding courses through the Jamestown EMS Education program. The program was unveiled two years ago and has had major success training EMT’s to service Jamestown and the surrounding area.

Chasity Juliuson of Hope, ND is a former student of the Jamestown training program and has served as an EMT for the last year.

She added the ability to help others, whether its good or bad, was what drew her to become an EMT.

Berkey added that they also offer virtual access to the training to assist other communities with ensuring they have trained EMS staff to serve their own area.

The next training course is set to begin January 10th, 2022. Cost to become an EMT is $1200, but that is reimbursable through the state. Berkey says they’re also offering possible scholarships for those who may be interested in becoming an EMT.
