FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liners boy’s basketball team were looking to pick up their first victory of the season as they traveled to North Fargo to take on the Spartans. Things started off going the Hi-Liners way, and at one point saw Valley City lead it 16-7, and the Hi-Liners lead at the break 36-31. However, the Spartans flexed their muscles in the second half and dominated the boards on both sides of the court and ultimately won this one in the end 83-66.
Valley City did give the undefeated Spartans a run for the money, especially in the first half. Anytime Fargo North would make a run to close the gap on the scoreboard, the Hi-Liners would get a clutch shot to extend their lead. Adam Bitz was one of the players hitting those shots as he finished with a team high 22-points, and made 6 3-pointers.
In the second half, Jalen May and Carter Zeller took over the game for the Spartans. May finished the game with 10 rebounds for Fargo North, and Zeller adding a game high 28-points to put the game out of reach. The Hi-Liners struggled trying to find an answer for the two Spartans in the paint.
With the loss, Valley City drops to 0-3 on the season. Next up, the Hi-Liners will return home on Tuesday to take on Fargo Davies.
