JAMESTOWN, ND. (jimmiepride.com) – Kia Tower (JR/Bigfork, MN) scored 14 of her game-high 24 points in the second half to help lead the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team to a 79-74 win over Hastings (Neb.) College Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.
It was the fourth straight win for the Jimmies (8-4 overall, 3-3 GPAC), who will play at Mount Marty (S.D.) University next Saturday.
Jamestown led 35-32 at the half, but a 14-6 run by the Broncos put the visitors ahead 46-41 with 5:10 left in the third quarter. Megan Oswald (FR/Brownsdale, MN) brought the Jimmies level after a three-point play at the 2:56 mark. Sarah Lenz (FR/Belle Plaine, MN) put Jamestown back in front with a pair of free throws on UJ’s next possession. A 14-4 run capped off by a Tower three-pointer with a second left, made it 61-51 going into the fourth.
Allison Bauer’s basket with 4:03 to play brought Hastings within two points at 69-67, but Noelle Josephson (SR/Ramsey, MN) and Tower scored on back-to-back possessions to build a six-point UJ advantage.
The Jimmies narrowly outshot Hastings .441 to .439, and both teams shot 16-of-19 from the foul line. Rebounds were even at 35, and UJ committed one fewer turnover (24-23).
Tower made six of her 11 three-point attempts and recorded three steals. Josephson (14) and Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) (12) were also in double figures. DeMars had a team-high seven rebounds. Lenz and Megan Oswald each had eight points off the bench, and Jordynn Toliver (JR/Box Elder, SD) dished out four assists.
