SIOUX CITY, Iowa– The University of Jamestown men’s wrestling team improved its dual record to 4-1 on the season with a split of two duals Wednesday night at the GPAC Duals, hosted by Morningside University.

The Jimmies lost a tough 22-20 battle to Hastings (Neb.) College but came back to defeat Midland (Neb.) University 45-10.

Jamestown will stay in Sioux City to face Briar Cliff University in a dual Thursday at 4 p.m.

After winning by forfeit at 125, Jamestown saw Roman Carrillo (SO/Temecula, Calif.) defeat Kavika Aholelei by 13-3 major decision at 133 and Jesse Murillo (JR/El Paso, Texas) win an 11-3 decision over Trystan Berry at 149 to lead the dual 13-3.

The Broncos came back with victories at 157, 165, 174, and 184 to pull ahead 22-14. Josh Goeden (SR/Sitka, Alaska) (GPAC #6) won a 7-5 decision at 197 over Dominick Leon, and Ian Howell (SO/Wildwood, Ga.) (GPAC #5) won by 6-1 decision over Henry Jones at 285 to finish on a winning note.

Midland was open at 125, 133, 141, 157, and 165 to give the Jimmies 30 points.

Jamestown’s victories in the contested matches were Murillo defeating Steven Aranda (GPAC #6) by 7-5 decision at 149; Trystan Rogers (FR/Carlsbad, N.M.) pinning Kody Hahn in 4:43 at 174, and Edgar Espinoza (FR/Yuma, Ariz.) pinning Matt Johnston in 1:31 at 285.
