Kimberly was born July 10, 1989 in Northwood, ND, the daughter of John and LuAnn (Shedd) Franzen. She graduated from Dakota Prairie High School with Honors. She worked at the Nelson County Care Center through her high school years. That is where she found her passion for nursing and care for others. She attended UND graduating in 2011 with her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. While attending UND she worked at Dr. Woodmansee’s Eye Clinic in Grand Forks as well as other various health care facilities. She married John Cook of Valley City in July of 2011. They made their home at the family farm north of Valley City. Kim worked in Fargo at Sanford ICU for a couple of years. They welcomed the light of their life, Nicholas John into their family February of 2015. One of Nicks favorite lines was “Mom, how did I get the best mom in the world?” He was always her #1 priority and she loved him with her whole heart. She encouraged him to follow his passions and enthusiastically watched his sporting events. She absolutely loved being a Mom and Aunty. Shortly after Nick was born, she found her calling when working for Hospice of the Red River Valley. She truly enjoyed helping families and patients through their end-of-life journey. She started as a staff nurse, then continued as a patient care manager. After working in the nursing field for 9 years, she decided to further her education and returned to UND to pursue her dreams where she is currently enrolled in the Masters in Nursing program to earn a Family Nurse Practitioner degree. All this while continuing to work full time as a staff nurse and caring for Nick. She enjoyed camping with family, traveling, watching Nick at his sports, the annual “Cook Corn” marathon, and spending time with family. Her nieces and nephews held a very special place in her heart.
