SIOUX CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – The #1 University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team opened up pool play on Tuesday morning with a straight sweep of Texas Wesleyan (26-24, 25-19, 25-19) at the Tyson Events Center.
The Rams battled late in the first set to put pressure on the Jimmies and force overtime, but it wasn’t enough for Texas Wesleyan to take set one. Following the set one victory, Jamestown was locked in on the attack, hitting .311 in set two and .412 in set three to get their 27th straight-set victory of the season.
It was another balanced hitting attack for Jamestown as the two middles, Corina Huff and Jayla Ritter, combined for 23 kills while both hitting above .300. Off the bench, Taylor Sabinash recorded six kills on eight total attacks without an error, and Aleah Zieske picked up four kills in her match at the Events Center.
Seniors Anna Holen and Kalli Hegerle didn’t play their best matches of the year, but Holen ended with 13 digs and eight kills while Hegerle added in six kills. Ellie Holen was spectacular on the back row, picking up a match-high 20 digs.
Setters Megan Gaffaney and Jackie Meiklejohn totaled 40 assists together, and as a team, Jamestown picked up 10 service aces. The Jimmies hit .262 overall in the victory over Texas Wesleyan.
Jamestown, now 33-0, will move on to the final match of pool play which is set to take place Wednesday morning at 10:30 am against Indiana Wesleyan. Full coverage of the match can be heard on Jamestown 107.1 FM.
