SIOUX CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – The #1 Jamestown women’s volleyball team picked up its 29th straight set victory of the year on Wednesday afternoon as the Jimmies defeated #20 Indiana Wesleyan (27-25, 25-13, 25-10).
The first set was a battle on both sides as IWU pushed the Jimmies into overtime. Jamestown called a timeout down 22-20 before eventually taking set one, 27-25. UJ never let off the gas from that point on, dominating in sets two and three to move on to the NAIA Quarterfinals.
The Jimmies hit .263 as a team behind another balanced attack. Kalli Hegerle and Anna Holen each tallied 10 kills, and true freshman Aleah Zieske added in eight more with a .400 hitting percentage. Taylor Sabinash had another strong performance, picking up seven kills while hitting .385.
Anna Holen recorded a double-double by picking up 15 digs, and her sister Ellie led Jamestown with 19 digs. Hannah Schiele helped anchor down the back row for the Jimmies, finishing with nine digs.
Jackie Meiklejohn had the other double-double for Jamestown on Wednesday, ending the match with 19 assists and 12 digs. Megan Gaffaney reached double-digit assists with 13 and tallied nine digs.
Jamestown improves to 34-0 on the year, recording the most wins in any season in UJ history. The Jimmies return to action on Thursday night at 5 pm when they take on the winner of Bellevue/Corban. Full coverage of the match can be heard on Jamestown 107.1.
