JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – One of the great rivalries in the state of North Dakota was renewed on Saturday afternoon as the VCSU Vikings traveled to take on the University of Jamestown in a matinee game. The Jamestown Jimmies would come away with the win 91-68.

This was a close match up until the middle of the third quarter. After the first quarter of play it was only a 2-point lead for the home team, 21-19. The Vikings were doing a great job on the afternoon of hitting their 3-pointers, and knowing when to drive the paint and attack the rim. However, unfortunately for VCSU during the second quarter, starter Hailey Roberts went for a lay up and came down hard and landed awkwardly on her right knee. She would need to be helped off of the court, and did not return to action on the day.

The Jimmies used quick ball movement to set up their offense. Excellent work by Kia Tower to move the ball up the court, and clutch 3-point shooting from Madelyn Schmidt gave the home team Jimmies the 44-29 lead at the half.

Adriana Torres came out shooting great to start the second half to keep the game close for VCSU. Torres would finish the game with 12-points on the afternoon.  In the end for this one it came down to excellent execution for the Jimmies. Hannah DeMars (14 points) and Madelyn Schmidt (Career high 15 points) kept responding anytime the Vikings would try to make a run in the game.

Jamestown would come away with this one in the end 91-68, there highest point total of the season. Next up for UJ, they are now 5-4 on the season and are home Monday when they host Presentation. For the VCSU Vikings, they drop to 3-6 on the year and will be on the road Monday night when they travel to Minot State for a 5:30pPM tip off.
