YORK, NE. (NewsDakota.com) – A late surge from the Jimmie women’s basketball team on Tuesday at Concordia came up just short as the Bulldogs Taysha Rushton knocked down a shot at the buzzer for #21 Concordia to take down Jamestown, 69-67.

A balanced scoring attack in the first half of play helped Jamestown go in front 36-30 heading into the halftime break. Kia Tower and Macy Savela led the way for UJ in the first half with eight and seven points respectively, as Jamestown shot 47% from the field. Concordia only turned the ball over three times in the first 20 minutes compared to nine for the Jimmies.

In the third, Jamestown struggled to take care of the basketball, committing four turnovers as Concordia took their first lead, 48-45, heading into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Bulldogs led by as many as eight points before the Jimmies made a late push. UJ cut the Concordia lead to five with one minute remaining when Noelle Josephson converted an and-one to make it 64-62.

Concordia converted on a pair of free throws to extend the lead back to four with 33 seconds to play. Josephson was fouled, made both at the line to bring it back to a two point game. After the Bulldogs went 1-for-2 at the line, Josephson found Hannah DeMars, who knocked down a three to tie it at 67 with ten seconds to play before Rushton nailed the game-winner for the Bulldogs.

DeMars ended the night with 17 points, going 4-5 at the line and grabbing eight rebounds. Josephson added in 13 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Tower ended as the final Jimmie in double figures with 11. UJ went 18-20 at the free throw line as a team. Audrey Rodakowski picked up 10 rebounds and seven points.

Jamestown returns to Harold Newman Arena on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm as they take on Valley City State for the first this season. The Jimmies are now 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the GPAC. Full coverage of the game can be heard on 107.1 FM in Jamestown and 1490 AM in Valley City.
