VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release concerning the number of burglary and theft cases now under investigation.

Sheriff Randy McClaflin said the number of calls for service increased dramatically in 2021 compared to 2020. He said calls for service rose by 1,647 for a total of 4,890 so far this year, compared with a total of 3,243 calls in 2020.

McClaflin said if you notice any suspicious activity, or have confronted an unwanted person on your property, or have captured an image or video of an unwanted person on a security camera, call the Sheriff’s office at 701-845-8530.

McClaflin said installing video cameras would help their efforts in identifying these individuals involved with these burglaries and thefts.

Barnes County State’s Attorney Tonya Duffy said video images greatly help when prosecuting cases involving burglaries and thefts.

About a dozen citizens voiced their concern over a string of rural burglaries and thefts in Barnes County during a County Commission meeting on Tuesday, November 2nd. These rural residents wanted to know what is being done to catch or arrest these individuals involved with these burglaries and thefts.
