Full Circle by Christian Wingire
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The James River Valley Library System (JRVLS) holds numerous books, sharing stories from around the world.
And some of these stories come from our area.
Christian W. Wingire was born and raised in North Dakota, growing up in Woodworth and Medina. He left the state when he was nineteen years old to serve in the U.S. Navy.
Library Director Joe Rector says Wingire wrote the book to help deal with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD.
Wingire served as a Navy corpsman with the Marines. Originally, he was supposed to be in 6 months of combat and 6 months in a supporting role, but that didn’t happen.
Rector adds that the story also shares the disrespect from demonstrators that many such as Wingire experienced when they arrived back in the U.S. from Vietnam. The story truly comes “full circle” when he returns home to Medina and has an emotional reunion with his parents.
Rector says Wingire’s story Full Circle can be checked out at either the Alfred Dickey Library or Stutsman County Library. His other book Winds Across the Northern Prairie is also available and centers on his growing up in the Woodworth and Medina areas of Stutsman County.
In other Library news, Rector says they have had great success with the newly installed Little Free Libraries in the area.
After school classes and partnerships also continue at the JRVLS. For more information, visit jrvls.org or call either Alfred Dickey Library at 701-252-2990 or Stutsman County Library at 701-252-1531.
