MAYVILLE, N.D. (VCSUAthletics.com) – The Valley City State women’s basketball team led most of the way Saturday but ultimately fell to Presentation College 54-50 after a fourth quarter comeback by the Saints.

The Vikings led by as much as 13 points after an 8-0 Viking run with 1:10 left in the third quarter but the Saints outscored the Vikings 17-5 in the final 10 minutes to complete the comeback effort. The Vikings held a 50-50 tie with 2:05 to go but late free throws sealed the win for Presentation at the Dakota Clash Classic hosted by Mayville State.

Valley City State drops to 2-5 overall this season while Presentation improves to a 2-6 record. The Vikings will face Trinity Bible College on Tuesday night at home. The doubleheader opens with the women’s game at 5 p.m. and men to follow at 7 p.m.

Ashlyn Diemert led VCSU’s scoring effort with 11 points off the Viking bench Saturday. Hailey Roberts added 10 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals. Adriana Torres finished with a team-high seven rebounds, four points and two assists, and Taryn Dieterle added six rebounds and five points for the Vikings. Allie Critchley dished out a team-best four assists Saturday.

Valley City State shot 26 percent from the field (16-62), 25 percent on 3-pointers (7-28) and 79 percent on free throws (11-14). Presentation shot 39 percent from the field (21-54), 17 percent on 3’s (2-12) and 71 percent from the charity stripe (10-14).

The Vikings posted 23 bench points and held the rebounding advantage 42-34 Saturday. The Saints scored 15 points off 20 Viking turnovers and totaled five blocks as a team.

Presentation’s Al Morones scored 12 points to lead the Saints Saturday. Emma Ogitchida and Brittiney Seymour each chipped in 10 points while Seymour added five rebounds, three blocks and three assists.

UP NEXT: VCSU hosts Trinity Bible for a doubleheader on Tuesday. The women’s game will tip at 5 p.m. with the men to follow at 7 p.m.
