VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A recall sponsoring committee made up of District 24 Republicans who led an effort to recall District 24 Representative Dwight Kiefert earlier this year has been rescinded.
North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger approved the recall petition for circulation on Monday, July 19th. At that time, recall committee chairman Shane Anderson said Representative Kiefert was being recalled for failing to meet the standards of a Republican.
Jaeger said following changes made to legislative districts during the legislative redistricting process last week in Bismarck, the recall of Kiefert can not move forward being the state will require an election on November 8th of 2022.
Jaeger said, an official may not be recalled if the special election would occur within one year of the next regularly scheduled election according to North Dakota Century Code.
More details about the decision are attached in a letter issued by Jaeger to recall committee chairman Shane Anderson of Valley City.
