JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee moved forward with quotes for water treatment and wastewater collection and treatment.

Water Superintendent Joe Rowell informed the committee that they’ve seen different trends in chemical quotations for cities.

Rowell says other cities were seeing substantial increases in their quotations too. Slight shortages have also contributed to higher demand and 15 to 20% increase in price.

Rowell recommended awarding the chemical service to Hawkins Water Treatment of Fargo for Bacteria/Enzymes, Chlorine for both water and wastewater, Hydrofluosilicacid, and Sulfer Dioxide. Killoran Trucking of Tower City was recommended to provide 1/2″ Pebble Lime and AWG of Mandan was recommended for Liquid CO2.

The recommendations were moved ahead unanimously by the committee.

The committee also recommended Vining Oil Co. as a supplier for hydrocarbons for the city.

City Engineer Travis Dillman later provided an update to the 2022-2025 NDDOT Urban Roads and Urban Regional State Transportation Improvement Programs, or STIP, list.

The first project listed is US 52 in the Business Loop West from the bridge of James River West to existing concreate by Don Wilhelm’s. This would require major rehabilitation and reconstruction to concrete, including sidewalks.

Total cost is estimated at $3.26 million. Other projects listed on the STIP including 17th Street intersection north to Wilhelm’s, ND Highway 20 rehabilitation, and US 52 from 7th Ave NW to 10th St. SE minor repairs.

The committee moved to approve the list for submission.

For the first snow removal of the season, Street Foreman Rick Lipetzky says it went well.

He added there was no concerns with the bump outs during snow removal.
