JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The #10 Jimmies men’s basketball team opened up the GPAC season on Wednesday night at Newman Arena with a 77-67 win over Dakota Wesleyan.
UJ started slow on the offensive end, falling behind by six points early in the first half before turning things on before the halftime break. Jamestown took a six-point lead into the break and in the second half, the Jimmies started hitting their stride with Cole Woodford and Will Cordes knocking down big threes. Jamestown used hot shooting in the second half, hitting 63% of their shots, to pull away from the Tigers.
Mason Walters led the Jimmies with 17 points and nine rebounds, and Marc Kjos added in 13 points and five assists. Underneath, Devon Schultz went four of five from the field, finishing with 10 points and five boards. Brady Birch had a big night, chipping in 12 points and five rebounds with a block. UJ shot 53% from the field for the game. Jamestown was 11-16 from the free throw line and were plus 13 in rebound margin.
The Jimmies move to 7-0 on the year, the best start under Danny Neville. Jamestown will hit the road for back-to-back GPAC games beginning on Saturday at Midland. UJ will return home next Saturday, November 27th when they host Valley City State at 3 pm.
