Doreen Mae Sayler was born on March 20th, 1961, in Chicago, IL to Larry H. and Marjorie Sayler. She passed away in her home on November 7th, 2021.
In her high school years, Doreen participated in cheerleading and band before graduating from Wishek, ND. She continued her passion for music in college as a member of the NDSU Gold Star Marching Band, where she played the clarinet. Doreen graduated from NDSU’s College of Pharmacy. After graduating, she mentored and taught future pharmacists through the College of Pharmacy. She moved to Valley City and opened her business, Central Avenue Pharmacy in 1989 where she has since received numerous awards, including the Health Mart Community Excellence award and Business and Professional Women awards.
Doreen showed her caring nature and heart for serving others through her active participation in several community organizations including the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Soap Box Derby, Faith Lutheran Church, and St. Catherine’s School. Her service was recognized through the Hi-Line Award and the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.
Doreen opened her loving home to many foster children during her years in Valley City. She later adopted two beautiful daughters Morgen Sayler (20) and Chloe Sayler (9). Outside of her career as a pharmacist and involvement in community organizations, Doreen enjoyed supporting NDSU Bison athletics, playing cards and games, crocheting, and surrounding herself with family.
Doreen is survived by her daughters Morgen and Chloe Sayler, father, Larry H. Sayler; siblings, Larry E. Sayler, Nathan (Marsha) Sayler, and Natalie (Clint) Meyer, 12 loving nieces and nephews, and many other cherished family members. Her mother, Marge, passed away just five days after Doreen.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edwin and Dorothea Meidinger, and Fred Jr. and Martha Sayler.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Catherine School or Faith Lutheran children’s program.
