VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The VCSU Vikings came into this game riding a 3-game winning streak. After back to back wins last weekend, they were looking to keep their early season momentum going as they hosted their rivals from just down the interstate, the 5-0 Jamestown Jimmies. Jamestown would win the first installment of the rivalry on this night in Valley City 81-64.
The night started out great for the Vikings as they quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three’s from Jalen Addison and Connor Entzi. They would push the lead to 8-2 before Jamestown would start to get comfortable on enemy territory. The Jimmies would go off on a 12-0 run to take the lead for the first time on the night, and wouldn’t look back. In the first half, Jamestown’s sophomore forward Mason Walters would put up 12-points as he worked his way down low and controlled the game from the paint. Walters had a smooth turn around jumper as he would back down his defender that the Vikings struggled to defend all evening. The Jimmies would go into the break with a 45-35 lead.
Second half, the Vikings would cut the deficit to 6 as they got baskets from Kevin Schramm and Connor Entzi. However, Brady Birch and Marc Kjos for Jamestown, would get thos points right back and take a 50-39 lead. The second half of this game belonged to Mason Walters. At one point, the Jamestown native registered 9 consecutive points for his team. Number 33 was all over both ends of the court in his 34 minutes of action. Walters would hit back to back 3’s about 25 seconds apart to put the nail in the coffin of the Vikings on this night. Jamestown Jimmies win this one 81-64.
Mason Walters finished with a game high 29 points in the win, along with 17 rebounds. For the VCSU Vikings, Connor Entzi lead the way with 17 points of his own as well as 4 rebounds. With the loss the Vikings drop to 3-3 on the season. They will be in action again on Tuesday night as they host Yellowstone Christian College. This game can be heard on KOVC.
