GRAND FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liner volleyball team lost in heartbreaking fashion on Friday afternoon against Fargo North. They won the first two sets 25-20, 25-16, but proceeded to lose the final three sets 25-22, 25-19, and 19-17. Valley City had three match points leading 15-14, 16-15, and then 17-16, but lost the final three points of the match.
The seniors played their hearts out for Valley City with Dylann Diegel making some spectacular sets and tips over the net and down in the corners, Rachel Beierle making some fantastic digs, and Peyton Pederson with multiple untouchable kills.
Unfortunately, the Spartans were able to make some adjustments with credit to head coach Rachel Hummel. Fargo North got some clutch points in the latter portions of the third and fifth sets to lift them over the Hi-Liners. Junior Reagan Carlson was the MVP of the night with kills aplenty. Senior Meghan Dirk came up with some timely aces down the stretch in their hard-fought five set win.
Valley City’s season ends after going 9-9 in conference play and 12-14 during the regular season. Fargo North will take on the winner of West Fargo and Sheyenne to be played later this evening.
