Kenneth Alfred Lettenmaier, 82, of Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, November 7, 2021 at Eventide Lutheran Home after a hospital stay and complications from COPD.
Kenneth was born Aug. 14, 1939 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, ND to parents Alfred and Christine (Munz) Lettenmaier. Kenneth, along with some of his eldest siblings Larry and Carol, went to country school. Theylived on the family farm and then moved to Sanborn.
Kenneth graduated from Sanborn Public High Schoolin 1957 and spent the following summer working in Yellowstone National Park where he loved visiting with people from all across the country and world.
He entered Valley City State University in the fall to study history and accounting and graduated with a Bachelors in Education in 1962. While in college he worked at Drugan’s Super Value bagging and then delivering groceries on foot to homes near the store.He didn’t have a car so he walked everyday to and from school, work and home. For a stint he lived with the Challey family.
After graduation, Kenneth taught for a couple years in Plevna, Montana and then Plaza, North Dakota, he also served as a school principal. He moved to St. Paul, MN and taught accounting at Rasmussen College. He went on to work in the admissions office and then led the financial aid department, helping students afford college.
Upon retirement, 17 years ago, he moved to Moorhead, MN to be closer to family.
Kenneth made friends easily and maintained his relationships with those from St. Paul, Rasmussen and then, in his later years, his physical therapy group. He served as treasurer of his homeowners’ associationboard in his Moorhead neighborhood.
Kenneth had impeccable taste and his ability to choose the perfect, thoughtful gift for each and every person in his life, was unmatched. He never let a birthday, anniversary, or special day go unnoticed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a younger brother Wesley, an infant brother Dwayne, a brother Larry; and a sister and brother-in-law Carol and Darrel Lettenmaier.
Kenneth is survived by his sister Gail (Orville) Hanson, Moorhead; a sister-in-law Mary Lettenmaier, Otsego, Minnesota; nieces Debbra Lettenmaier, Fargo, Patricia Pitts, Shelly (Kent) Kosse; a nephew Terry Lettenmaier all of Valley City. He also leaves several great nieces and nephews and their children.

Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, North Dakota. Inurnment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Sanborn. A reception will follow at the Valley City Eagles Lodge.
