CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 2021 Class B Region 3 Varsity Volleyball tournament started on Monday with four matches, here are the results:
No. 2 Linton/HMB 3 Griggs/Midkota 0
The District 6 Champs and number two rated Lions of Linton/Hazelton/Moffit/Braddock cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Titans of GM (25-8, 25-10, 25-8). Junior Shaylee Bosch had a match high 10 kills and a stuff block, Senior and five-year starter Jaycee Richter added eight kills, two aces and two stuff blocks for the Lions. The Titans were led by Senior Jenna Larson with five kills. The Lions improve to 23-2 overall, the D5 #4 seeded Titans end their season at 13-13-1.
Strasburg/Zeeland 3 Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 2
The Loboes jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and looked like they would cruise into the semifinal, but the Clippers came out strong in the third and fourth sets to send it to a fifth a final set. Junior Lilly Haak had five kills and Senior Shelby Vander Vorst added four to help SZ secure the fifth set victory and end the LLM Loboes season (15-25, 20-25, 25-13, 25-13, 15-12). Vander Vorst ended with a match high 17 kills, Haak added 12. LLM was led by Sophomore Heidi Steffes with 15 kills. The D6 #3 seed SZ Clippers improve to 20-5-1 overall and D5 #2 seed LLM Loboes end their season at 20-7-2.
Carrington 3 South Border 1
The RV Carrington Cardinals advanced to the Region 3 semifinals with a 3-1 victory (25-21, 19-25, 25–17, 28-26) over the South Border (SB) Mustangs. The Cardinals were paced by 6′ senior middle blocker Sydnie Grager’s 14 kills & Haley Wolsky’s (5’9 junior outside hitter) 12 kills. Grager also added 4 stuff blocks. Isabel Wendel (5’7 freshman outside hitter/setter) had a match high 5 service aces & also added 8 kills for the Cardinals. Kennedy Wendel (5’10 junior middle blocker) recorded a match high 5 stuff blocks and also added 5 kills. Emma Rindy (5’5 senior setter) had a match high 31 assists. Mya Schroeder (5’4 senior libero) recorded a match high 55 digs.
The Mustangs were paced by Emily Jochim (junior outside hitter) with a match high 15 kills and added 42 digs. Savannah Bader (senior middle blocker) added 11 kills and 43 digs. Kylie Stock (junior setter) had 26 assists and Kathryn Schneider (junior libero) had a team high 51 digs.
South Border finished the season 15-12 overall & Carrington improved to 21-8-3.
Oakes 3 Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter 1
The Oakes Tornadoes were sparked offensively by District 5 Senior player of the year Abigail Cox (outside hitter/setter) with a team high 14 kills and added 18 assists and a match high 3 service aces. Laikyn Roney (junior outside hitter) shared the team high kills of 14. Brianna Schmitz (freshman outside hitter) added 10 kills and 2 service aces. Bethany Harris (sophomore setter) had a team high 21 assists and Brynn Dethlefsen (Junior libero) had a team high 50 digs.
Napoleon-Gackle Streeter (NGS) senior outside hitter Ashley Schmitt had a match high 19 kills and 3 service aces to pace the Imperials offense. Kylie Breidenbach (senior outside hitter) added 10 kills and a match high 55 digs. Emma Ketterling (junior setter) had a match high 35 assists and 3 service aces, Sophie Ketterling (junior libero) added 53 digs for the Imperials. NGS finished the season 24-9-1 overall and Oakes improved to 14-7-3.

530pm – Linton/HMB vs. Strasburg/Zeeland (semifinal)
25 min. after – Carrington vs. Oakes (semifinal)
