VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUAthletics.com) – The Valley City State volleyball team has earned a No. 4 seed for the 2021 North Star Athletic Association ‘Super Six’ postseason tournament, the conference office announced Sunday.

The postseason tournament is set to return to the Civic Arena in Watertown, S.D. on Friday and Saturday.  No. 4 Valley City State will take on No. 5 seed Mayville State at 12 p.m. Friday. The winner will advance to take on top-seeded Viterbo at 7 p.m. Friday.

Valley City State took its first matchup over Mayville in a three-game sweep back on Oct. 6 while garnering a season-high .297 attack percentage. More recently, Mayville State won a five-set battle over VCSU on Nov. 3.

Viterbo (Wis.) will be the No. 1 seed for the conference postseason tournament.  The V-Hawks, who are ranked No. 2 nationally, are currently on a 28-match winning streak with an overall record of 35-1.  VU claimed the league title with a perfect 14-0 record.

No. 11 ranked Bellevue (Neb.) will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament with an overall record of 22-6 and 11-3 NSAA conference record.

Dakota State (S.D.), receiving votes recognition in the national poll, will be the No. 3 seed in the tournament with an overall record of 20-7 and 9-5 record in league matches.  Valley City State (N.D.) secured the No. 4 seed in the conference postseason with an overall record of 13-17 and 8-6 NSAA conference record.

Mayville State (N.D.) (15-14 overall record) and Presentation (S.D.) (15-13 overall record) were tied for fifth place in the conference standings.  The Comets own the tiebreaker via numbers of sets won during head-to-head meetings (5 sets to 4 sets).  MSU will be the No. 5 seed, while the No. 6 seed belongs to PC.

The conference postseason tournament kicks off with a pair of quarterfinal matches in the first session Friday.  Dakota State takes on Presentation with a 10 a.m. first serve.  MSU plays VCSU in the second match of the first session, scheduled for 12 noon.

The quarterfinal winners move on to the evening semifinals session Friday.  The PC/DaSU winner faces Bellevue in the first semifinal at 5 p.m.  Viterbo is scheduled to play at 7 p.m. against the winner of MSU/VCSU match.

The semifinal winners will move on to the North Star conference championship match Saturday.  First serve is set for 2 p.m.

The winner of the NSAA Volleyball Postseason Conference Tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament Opening Round, which is set for Nov. 20.  The national opening round winners will move on to the final set at Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa from Nov. 30-Dec. 4.

Waldorf (Iowa) and Dickinson State (N.D.) ended their 2021 season on Nov. 7.  Both teams finished with a 2-12 record in North Star conference matches.  The Warriors finished with an overall record of 11-15, while the Blue Hawks finished with an overall record of 2-25.
