JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time in 27 years, the Jamestown High School football team is headed to the state finals as the Blue Jays took down Fargo North 41-24 on Friday night at Rollie Greeno Field.

The final score was not indicative of how this game played out as Jamestown dominated the entire first half, leading 33-0 at the break. Payton Hochhalter started the scoring just one minute into the game when he hit Preston Kroeber over the middle for a 51-yard touchdown reception. Later in the first, Hochhalter found Adam Kallenbach on a 24-yard reception for one of Kallenbach’s three touchdowns on the night.

The Blue Jays would put up one more score in the first quarter, this time with Hochhalter hitting Brode Hillstrom down the seam for a 77-yard touchdown reception. Hochhalter went 8-11 in the first half for 252 yards and five touchdown passes. Kallenbach ended the game with three total receptions for 62 yards and three touchdowns, he also had an interception on defense.

On the ground, Aden Braun carried the ball 19 times for 181 yards and a score, with a majority of his touches coming in the second half. Jakob Schempp finished with 39 rush yards on six carries and one reception for 12 yards. Defensively, Jamestown forced two turnovers, including a fumble recovery by Colton Mewes.

The last time the Blue Jays reached the Dakota Bowl was back in 1994 when they lost to Saint Mary’s. Jamestown has a chance to avenge that loss next Friday afternoon in the Fargodome when they take on the Saints in the 11A Championship. Kickoff is tentatively set for 2:30 pm, and you can listen to the full game on Jamestown 107.1.
