SIOUX CITY, Iowa (jimmiepride.com)— Four second-half goals helped put the match away for Briar Cliff University as they handed the University of Jamestown men’s soccer team a 5-0 loss in the quarterfinals of the GPAC postseason tournament.
The seventh-seeded Jimmies have their season come to a close with an overall record of 6-9-3. BCU, the second-seed in the tournament, improves to 13-5 and will face the winner of #6 Midland/#3 Hastings on Saturday.
Briar Cliff led 1-0 at the half behind a 40th minute goal by Michael Virgen. Shots were 6-4 in the opening 45 minutes, but the Chargers held a 4-0 edge in shots on goal.
A 51st minute penalty kick by Luis Paolo Sartor increased the Charger lead to 2-0, then Danny Baca made it 3-0 in the 57th minute. Just over three minutes later, Baca scored again to increase the lead to 4-0, then Rodrigo Oliveira ended the scoring with a 79th minute goal.
Frankie Parkinson (FR/Bournemouth, England), Diego Valle (SR/Yucaipa, Calif.), and Eric Fairtlough (SR/Varese, Italy) all put shots on target against BCU keeper Leandro Faria.
Alex Hamer (SR/Solihull, England) had three saves for Jamestown.
