JAMESTOWN, ND. (jimmiepride.com) – The top-ranked University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team added another impressive accomplishment to its resume Tuesday night with a home sweep of No. 15 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University.

Jamestown finished the regular season with a 16-0 conference record and 28-0 overall record, the first time in program history the team has taken a perfect record into the postseason.

The Jimmies will be the top seed in the GPAC posteason tournament, which begins on Saturday. UJ hosts Doane (Neb.), the eighth-seed, at 7 p.m.

Offense was the key for UJ in Tuesday’s victory as the team hit .434 with 54 kills. On the other side of the net, DWU hit just .075 and had 23 kills.

Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.)’s kill broke a 5-5 tie in the first set and sparked a 6-0 Jimmie run. The Tigers would get no closer than three points (12-9) and trailed by as many as eight after an attack error gave Jamestown a 22-14 edge.

Another 6-0 run in set two by the Jimmies took a 10-10 tie into a comfortable 16-10 lead as Holen, Jayla Ritter (SR/Forest Lake, Minn.), and Aleah Zieske (FR/Spicer, Minn.) all registered kills during the run. Back-to-back kills by Corina Huff (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) put Jamestown up 21-12 for the biggest lead of the set.

DWU trailed by just three (9-6) in the third set, only to have UJ score 16 of the final 21 points for a convincing set and match win. Jamestown hit .394 in the frame while holding the Tigers to a -.061 hitting percentage.

Holen led the Jimmies with 12 kills and 18 digs. Hegerle finished with 10 kills and Zieske nine. Taylor Sabinash (SR/Kensal, N.D.) led the team with a .700 hitting percentage (7 kills in 10 attempts). Jackie Meiklejohn (SR/Dickey, N.D.) passed out 29 assists while Megan Gaffaney (SR/Jamestown, N.D.) had 16 assists and 10 digs. Ellie Holen (SO/LaMoure, N.D.) was also in double figures with 14 digs. Ritter ended with six total blocks.
