FARGO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liners were in Fargo to take on the West Fargo Packers to end their regular season. The Packers came into Valley City back in September and swept the Hi-Liners, and on this night they would follow suit. West Fargo winning in three sets 25-16, 25-22, and 25-13. With the loss Valley City finishes the regular season 11-12, and will take on Devils Lake Friday night at 6PM in the EDC play-in game at the Hi-Liner Activity Center.
In the first set West Fargo quickly took control. Getting strong performances from Nadia Chwialkowski, Chloe Pfau, and Mary Schnell, they were just too much for the Hi-Liners as they cruised to the 25-16 victory in the first set.
In the second set, Valley City looked like a completely different team, at least in the beginning. The Hi-Liners would jump out to a 5-1 lead, only to see it quickly evaporate and find themselves tied up at 5-5. The Hi-Liners would then take a lead of 9-6, thanks to the strong play of Peyton Pederson and Samantha Hatcher. However, West Fargo stayed strong and would rattle off four consecutive points to take a 13-9 lead. Once again for the Packers, Nadia Chwialkowski would establish herself in front of the net, and Mary Schnell would provide the kills, as West Fargo wins the second set of the night 25-22.
In the third set West Fargo just flexed their muscle in this set and took control from the start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Credit to Valley City, as they would keep fighting the Packers and with the help of Addy Kvilvang in front, and Faith Pederson getting points for the Hi-Liners, they would cut the deficit to just 1. Unfortunately for the Hi-Liners they had to witness some history on this night. West Fargo Senior Nadia Chwialkowski would make the score 19-11 by scoring her 1,000th career kill. Riding the moment from such an impressive accomplishment, the Packers won this set 25-13.
The West Fargo Packers win the match 3-0, and sweep the season series with Valley City. Next Up for the Hi-Liners, they will take on Devils Lake in the EDC play-in game on Friday, November 5 at the Hi-Liner Activity Center. First match for this one is set for 6pm, and can be heard on KOVC.
