JAMESTOWN, N.D. (CVHD) – In anticipation of the approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for pediatrics, Central Valley Health District (CVHD) is planning to host a COVID vaccination clinic for children 5- to 11-year-old.

The vaccination clinic will be held on Thursday, November 11 in the main entrance of the Jamestown Civic Center from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

The vaccine’s safety was studied in approximately 3,100 children ages 5 through 11 who received the vaccine and no serious side effects have been detected in the ongoing study.

The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for children 5 through 11 years of age is administered as a two-dose primary series, 3 weeks apart, but is a lower dose (10 micrograms) than that used for individuals 12 years of age and older (30 micrograms).

“Adult COVID vaccine and child COVID vaccine are not interchangeable,” stated Robin Iszler, Unit Administrator.  The pediatric vaccine will be manufactured and packaged specifically for pediatrics.

To ensure safety and comfort of the children of our community, CVHD is hosting a special clinic for those who meet the qualifications for the child vaccine.  CVHD is anticipating receiving approximately 200 pediatric Pfizer doses of COVID vaccine next week.  Doses will be limited, and attendees must pre-register in order to receive the vaccine.  To register for an appointment, visit the www.centralvalleyhealth.org/covid-vaccine/.

Due to limited space, please limit attendance of the event to the child receiving the vaccination and one parent or guardian.

Again, the vaccination clinic will be held in the main entrance of the Civic Center, while COVID testing will be occurring simultaneously in the Exchequer Room of the Civic Center that day.
