JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Between November 1st through the 5th, residents are encouraged and reminded to shift into the winter weather mindset.

Numerous agencies take time during North Dakota Severe Winter Weather Awareness Week to get residents, motorists, and visitors to increase awareness, preparedness, and safety for the winter season.

Stutsman County Emergency Manager Andrew Kirking says during the winter, you’ll experience freezing temperatures, dangerous windchills, potential ice storms, and blizzards, which can be a combination of some or all of these conditions.

He also explained that you can take time to learn the difference between advisories, watches, and warnings when it comes to weather events.

-Advisories are issued as the lowest confidence of a system, but encourages people to keep their eyes open.

-A watch is issued when confidence is a little more certain that a weather event will happen, giving residents a day to prepare for the possibility.

-Warnings are issued when it’s guaranteed the event will happen or is currently happening.

Another way Stutsman County residents can be prepared is by signing up for the Stutsman County Alerts through the county at no cost.

Kirking add that there are a few other things you can do the ensure you’re ready for the winter.
