SIOUX CITY, Iowa– No. 3 Morningside University scored early and often Saturday afternoon, defeating the University of Jamestown football team 70-7 at Elwood Olsen Stadium.
The Mustangs (8-0) found the end zone eight times in the first half, with seven of their scoring drives stretching at least 53 yards.
Jamestown drove 95 yards in six plays over a span of 2:19 for its lone touchdown of the day, a 44-yard pass from Cade Torgerson (JR/Billings, Mont.) to Steve Justice (SO/Henderson, Nev.).
Morningside added a pair of third-quarter touchdowns to round out the scoring.
The Jimmies finished with 278 yards of total offense, 199 of them coming through the air. Torgerson completed 15-of-38 passes for 183 yards. Justice was the top UJ receiver on the day, catching seven passes for 102 yards.
Chris Sayler (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) carried nine times for 46 yards, including a long of 20.
Aaron Mack (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) led the defense with seven tackles, while Joey Carlblom (FR/Sparks, Nev.), Jordan Olson (JR/Prior Lake, Minn.), Brooks Canfield (SO/Tempe, Ariz.), and Jed Rantz (FR/Arroyo Grande, Calif.) all had six. Olson had an interception and Rob Anderson (FR/Alexandria, Minn.) was credited with a fumble recovery.
UJ (2-7) plays its final road game of the season next Saturday at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University.
