JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team remained unbeaten and picked up its second straight GPAC regular season crown on Saturday afternoon as the #1 Jimmies took down #9 College of Saint Mary in four sets.
Jamestown took the opening set 25-18 before dropping set two 25-21 to even the match a 1-1. In the third set, the Jimmies trailed 11-8 before scoring 17 of the final 25 points to go in front in the match 2-1, before taking set four 25-22 to win their 27th straight.
Four different Jimmies ended the night with double-digit kills, led by Anna Holen and Corina Huff who each finished with 13. Holen recorded a double-double, adding in a team-high 26 digs in the victory on senior night. Aleah Zieske and Kalli Hegerle both had 11 kills as Jamestown hit .281 as a team compared to .167 for the Flames.
Setters Megan Gaffaney and Jackie Meiklejohn combined for 53 of the 55 assists on the night for Jamestown, led by Meiklejohn who had 27. Gaffaney added in 11 digs for a double-double, and Meiklejohn also had double-digit digs with 14. Ellie Holen and Hannah Schiele on the Jimmie back brown had 15 and 14 digs respectively.
#1 Jamestown now holds a perfect 27-0 record on the year and is 15-0 in the GPAC with one regular-season game remaining. The Jimmies host #15 Dakota Wesleyan on Tuesday night at 7:30, and will open up the GPAC postseason tournament next Saturday against a to-be-determined opponent.
