JAMESTOWN, ND. (jimmiepride.com) -For the third time this season, the University of Jamestown men’s soccer team played to a double-overtime draw. Wednesday’s match against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University ended 1-1 after 110 minutes at the Jimmie Turf Field.

Jamestown, 6-7-3 overall and 4-4-2 in the GPAC, has qualified for the conference postseason tournament and will close out the regular season Saturday at home against Briar Cliff (Iowa) University at 3:30 p.m.

Despite outshooting the Tigers 10-1 (4-2 on goal) in the first half, the Jimmies held a slim 1-0 lead at the break on a 41st minute goal from Max Gross (SR/Boeblingen, Germany), assisted by Eric Fairtlough (SR/Varese, Italy).

DWU found the tying goal in the 84th minute as Benjamin Lazcano made it 1-1. Jona Toussaint (FR/Berlin, Germany) had a shot go wide left of goal in the 85th minute, and Hendrik Romahn (JR/Osterburg, Germany)’s 88th minute attempt was saved by the Tiger keeper.

Each team had a potential game-winning goal whistled offside, and tempers began to flare in the first overtime. Both teams argued for a penalty kick after having a player fouled in the box, but to no avail.

In the second overtime, Diego Valle (SR/Yucaipa, Calif.) got free on a breakaway in the 108th minute, but his shot went over the crossbar. Gross had the Jimmies’  last attempt on goal as time ran out, only to shoot wide of the post.

Jamestown outshot the Tigers 19-6 (7-3 on goal). UJ won nine corner kicks to DWU’s four.
