Lake Park, MN – A Western Minnesota corn and soybean grower has reached a plea agreement with the US Department of Justice for filing a false statement to the Federal Crop Insurance Corp.  According to a plea agreement, Kevan Jon Nelson of Lake Park, MN, has agreed to making false insurance claims for losses in 2018 and 2019 to the FCIC.  As part of the agreement he has agreed to pay nearly $550,000 in restitution to the FCIC.

With the agreement Nelson will avoid paying up to a $1,000,000 in fines and possibly up to 30 years in prison.  He now could have a sentence range of 21 to 27 months in prison and a fine between $10,000 to $95,000.  He will also forfeit the right to use any programs paid for by the USDA, RMA, FSA, and FCIC.
