JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – A last-second three from Mayville State rimmed out at the buzzer as the Jimmie women hung on to beat the Comets 76-74 at Harold Newman Arena.
Jamestown took a 43-40 lead into the halftime break behind 48% shooting from the field and 47% from three-point range. Mayville State battled back in the fourth quarter, eventually taking a one-point lead over the Jimmies with less than two minutes to go.
After a Comets free throw extended the lead to 74-72, Hannah DeMars knocked down two free throws to tie the game at 74 with 56 seconds to play.
DeMars forced a Comet turnover on the following possession, setting up Kia Tower with the go-ahead jumper. Later, Mayville’s Jordan Zrust missed from three as time expired to send the Jimmies to 2-0.
Four Jimmies ended the night in double figures, including DeMars who had 13 points and eight rebounds. Noelle Josephson finished with 13 points and four assists despite being in foul trouble. Macy Savela went 3-for-4 from long range, totaling 11 points, and Audrey Rodakowski chipped in 11. Tower led Jamestown with six assists and added in nine points, including the game-winner.
The Jimmie freshmen had a solid day off the bench as Jailyn Martinson, Madelyn Schmidt, and Megan Oswald combined for 18 points and five rebounds. As a team, Jamestown was 44% from the field, 47% from three-point range, and 57% at the line.
UJ returns to play on Tuesday night in Aberdeen against Presentation College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 pm and the Jamestown men will play immediately after.
