VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Hi-Liners were looking to complete the two game back to back sweep at the Hi-Liner Activity Center on this Tuesday night, however the Bruins from Fargo South were just a little bit better on this night and come away with the win in four sets. The scores were 25-21 FS, 25-23 VC, 25-22 FS, and 25-15 FS.
Before tonight’s match up the buzz was about how close these two teams are in playing ability. The first set tonight lived up to the hype. Both teams fought hard in this one with the largest lead being 4 points, and that was for the final score (25-21). Early on in this match up the Hi-Liners were getting strong play up front once again from Addy Kvilvang. She was causing issues for the Bruins up front all night long. However, in this first set the Bruins were propelled to victory thanks to Emma Dalby and Gen Gard. Fargo South takes the first set 25-21.
The Hi-Liners quickly jumped out to a five to one lead early in the second set. Peyton Pederson, and Addy Kvilvang played big factors in Valley City winning this set. I also want to note that this set totally changed when Abbey Thornton got 3 consecutive point for Valley City while she was serving. Hi-Liners win the second set 25-23.
In the third set the Bruins this time were the benefit of getting good serves. Nina Majetich a couple of times in this set really was serving the ball to the spots she wanted to, putting her team in the right position to succeed. This set also saw Emma Dalby establish her presence this evening as she completely took over the front rows and was rejecting anything that came her way. Fargo South wins the third set 25-22.
The fourth, and final set of the night saw Emma Dalby just dominate the game from anywhere on the court. Up front she was maniacal with just dropping the ball over the night onto the Valley City side and getting points for her team. Gen Gard was also a big factor in this set as she was the perfect compliment to Dalby. Fargo South goes on to win this set 25-15, and win the match entirely 3-1.
On the evening Dylann Diegel lead the way for Valley City with 28 assists and 18 digs. Samanthat Hatcher lead the team in kills with 12, followed by Peyton Pederson who had 11.
With the loss the Hi-Liner drop to 8-11 on the season and will be in action again next Tuesday on the road at Devils Lake.
