Fargo, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Cass County Sheriff’s department held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to provide an update on the deadly shooting that happened in the early morning hours of 10-18 at an apartment in Casselton. Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner said the incident first started back on 10-14 when Cass County Deputies were called to Club 94 in Casselton for a domestic incident. At that time 58 year old Randell Burton and another man were arrested. Burton was charged with Domestic Violence and Terrorizing against an un-named female victim. After this incident, the un-named female was concerned for her safety. On 10-17, Burton posted bail and signed an order saying he would have no contact with the female victim. That same day 54 year old Edwin Kester, a friend of the female, volunteered to stay at her apartment so she could sleep. About 2 am Burton showed up at the female’s apartment and proceeded to break through 2 locked doors. Once inside he headed straight for her bedroom. That’s when Kester shot Burton and called authorities. Burton later died of his injuries.
Sheriff Jahner said at this time no charges have been filed. Although he reminded the media that this is still an active investigation.
