VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The nationally first-ranked Jamestown Jimmies proved their ranking Monday night with a dominant victory in three straight sets by a score of 25-4, 25-19, 25-14.
The Jimmies set the tone early and never let the Vikings get their packed crowd at Graichen Gymnasium into the game in the first set. Everyone got in on action for the Jimmies as senior Corina Huff, freshman Aleah Zieske, and junior Kalli Hegerle all got three kills apiece.
The second set was much closer and VCSU got out to an early lead. However, the best team in the country kept it close and pulled away late despite the Vikings’ and crowd’s best efforts. VCSU junior Bailey Nelson led the way with four kills in the set and got three from senior Katie Juarez as well. For Jamestown, junior Anna Holen took over the game with seven kills and ten digs to boot.
The Vikings left it all on the court in the second set and didn’t have much left in the tank to keep up with Jamestown in the third set. The Jimmies took care of business and put the match away before the Vikings had time to make a rally.
Jamestown remained undefeated at 25-0. VCSU was unable to get their overall record back to .500 as they fall to 11-13. The Jimmies play at Concordia University (Neb.) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. next and the Vikings will host #8 Bellevue on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
