The University of Jamestown women’s swimming and diving team had their first competition in program history Friday, taking on Northern State (S.D.) University in a dual at the Jamestown High School pool.
Northern State defeated the Jimmies 112-102, but several Jimmies had notable performances:
- Sulinke Van Den Berg (FR/Bloemfontein, South Africa) won the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:57.09, also earning herself a NAIA National Championships B cut
- Maya Villasenor (FR/Arcadia, Calif.) won the 50 freestyle with a time of :25.84
- Kacey Ross (FR/El Dorado Hills, Calif.) won the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.60
- Jada Shorter (FR/Magnolia, Texas) won diving, and achieved her Nationals cut in 1m diving with a six-dive score of 255.55
- Savannah Frahm (FR/Westminster, Calif.) won the 200 Fly with a time of 2:25.38
- Sulinke Van Den Berg won the 200 Back with a time of 2:11.82, beating the second place finisher by four seconds, and achieving a NAIA Nationals B cut
- The University of Jamestown A Relay (Van Den Berg, Nalani Curry (FR/Gilbert. Ariz.), Ross, Villasenor), won the 200 Freestyle relay with a time of 1:41.92, missing the national cut time by only .5 seconds. Ross had the fastest split with a :24.53
- Sulinke Van Den Berg achieved the Nationals B cut in the 50 freestyle with a time of :25.57
UJ is back in action next Friday at Southwest Minnesota State.
